NDIR (nondispersive infrared) based gas sensing solutions continue to evolve; whether to shrink in size, or in price, or to improve in measuring performance, in multifunction, or in energy consumption. This session reviews the current-state NDIR technology and its core components, and from there present some of the evolved design paths taking NDIR gas sensors into many new products and applications. Absorption spectroscopy has always been viewed as a highly accurate measuring technology, but too expensive or poorly fitted for many applications. The paradigm shift with Solid-State optics for NDIR-based gas sensing technologies is the dawning of the next current-state, a sunrise for the air and gas sensors- and data-driven tomorrow.
Don O’Brien is the Director of Global Accounts & Marketing with Senseair North America. Don has had roles in Engineering, Application Support, Business Development, Product Management, Marketing & Innovation, and Major Account Management over his 21-year career in Industrial Automation and Environmental Monitoring. He has a BAS degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and conducted his graduate studies in Engineering Law & Project Management at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Marketing Strategy for Business Leaders & Finance at Cornell University. Additionally, Don has a Predictive Analytics certification from the Vibration Institute.
